What we use...
Below are some products that we love & speak of frequently.
- Websites
- We have replaced Joomla with what you see now, TandemServer. Best configuration is, GoDaddy hosting on IIS 7 (add php in case you need it later). This allows for:
- multiple ftp accounts
- great dynamic photo galleries
- easy to build forms
- articles with built in RSS support
- e-mail newsletters
- easily tracked with GoDaddy free reports or Google Analytics
- Expression Web - version 2.0 now supports PHP. Has
great templates but still requires software installed locally and then you have to keep the code in sync.
- GoDaddy
- free DNS with registration
- free mail with domain
- cheap hosting
- great free/easy to install applications.
- Streaming / Media
- Windows Mobile 6.1 on the Samsung Blackjack II. Best
interface - combine with activesync against hosted Exchange and
CallFirewall and it is my dream setup.
- Windows Mobile was replaced by...okay I gave in, the Apple iPhone because of its now beautiful connections with Google (gmail).
- XAMPP - okay so i'm not a linux guru. But if you wanna
host PHP/Apache/MySQL this is a great place to start.
- Routers - we've been using Linksys & Netgear. We had
some troubles with others. Sonicwall is good, but
considerably more expensive, great for schools & non-profits that need content filtering for web surfers and provides a DMZ.
- Panda
- We use/recommend Panda Antivirus & Panda Internet
Security for home protection
- We use/recommend Panda Business Secure with Exchange.
One product protects all your workstations, your servers,
your email and includes spam protection.
- Malware protection
- Best source for utilities and applications - FileHippo.com. Number one thing I appreciate most about this site is that all the utilities are always up to date. I've attempted to store these files on my site but never keep them as up to date as they do. Well done.
